ABOUT CONVEYOR DESIGN CONSULTANTS OF WA
Conveyor Design Consultants of WA (CDC) was founded by David Beckley in 1973 to provide an engineering design service that specialised in belt conveyors and associated equipment for the mining and allied industries. For over 30 years CDC was involved in numerous conveying projects particularly for hard rock mining operations. These projects have included the design of new conveyors, transfer chutes and travelling trippers and the upgrade of existing equipment.
Prior to establishing CDC, David was employed in the cement, coal and iron ore industries. In 1968 he joined Kaiser Engineers and was responsible for the mechanical design of Hamersley Iron’s East Intercourse Island shipping terminal. In 1987 he spent two years working for Minenco as a Resident Consultant on the 20 km Channar overland conveyor system for Hamersley Iron.
With retirement approaching, David decided to put down on paper what he had learnt from his 40 years experience in design and trouble shooting in bulk materials handling and from this work the Practical Belt Conveying training course was developed. The first training course was run in 1999 and since then, over 1000 engineers from around the country and from overseas have attended one of these courses.
In 2005 David retired from all consulting work and in March 2010 he retired from running the courses. The Practical Belt Conveying courses are now being run in Western Australia by BMH Training Pty Ltd and in the Eastern States of Australia by Tech Training Australia Pty Ltd
